Welcome to Our History
Started as a worker's village in the 1837 construction of the Iron Furnace (an historical coal-fueled cast iron production furnace), Lonaconing is now a pleasant mountain community of a thousand people. |
170 years of history has left many artifacts and records, and these are now kept in display cases and file cases in the large meeting room of the George's Creek Regional Library.
Visitors, whether for serious academic studies or merely for an entertaining tour, are welcome to peruse our collection during regular library hours. If you have a question about our local history, we'll try to find for you an answer from our many amateur historians. |

|
In the meantime, our catalog is available to you in HTML page format and in PDF download format -- we hope you enjoy our on-line tour!
